LAW7, Pelgrimspad: Amsterdam - 's Hertogenbosch - Maastricht - Vise (Belgium), 466 km, 20 days
This trail is named after the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It starts in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, and runs southeast, traverses a wide diversity of landscapes, visits important papal seats like 's Hertogenbosch and Maastricht, and ends in the Belgian border town of Visé.
The Pelgrimspad is definitely worth the walk. It is more catered towards walkers than to the pure pilgrim. That’s because it does not call upon that many religious buildings connected to Saint James. Instead, it meanders a lot so that you will enjoy the best landscapes on this country’s diagonal line.
You will cross the River Maas that once formed the border between the Protestant north and Catholic south of Holland. The northern part is dominated by wide views over succulent ever green pastures, rivers and the odd windmill. The southern part traverses the poor inland of Brabant but ends in the joyful hills of Zuid-Limburg.
The trail is maintained by Wandelnet and is marked white-red.
If you’d rather visit places and churches connected to the adoration of Saint James, take the Jacobsweg Amstelredam to Roermond and continue on the Jacobspad Limburg. This route is shorter too.
From Maastricht / Visé, pilgrims can continue their pilgrimage to Vézelay and Santiago de Compostela on the Via Mosana.
