The Bayerische Voralpen are situated right below Munich, and therefor easely accessible. This is the center of the “Münchener Hausbergen”, stretching across the Northern Limestone Alps, on the border between Germany and Austria, from the west to the east. South of the Bavarian Alps is the Rofan Gebirge (Brandenberger Alps).

The Bavarian Alps more or less coincided with Isarwinkel and Mangfallgebirge. The center of the area lies around the Tegernsee.

The mountains here are not high - Rotwand is 1884 m. But the bare peaks stab sharply through the lovely green land of forests and meadows.

Walking is good here. There are many huts, remaining open much of the year. The trails can easely be combined into a hut trek.
